About Me – A Little Shop, A Lot of Heart
Hi, I'm Nicole, the person behind Owl Cottage.
People often ask why I started this little business, and the answer is pretty simple. I love beautiful things, I love finding little treasures, and I wanted somewhere to share them with other people who love them just as much as I do.
I work full-time in aged care, and when I'm not at work, there's a good chance you'll find me doing something for Owl Cottage.
And when I say something, I mean absolutely anything. Taking photos, adding products, changing things around on my website, fixing mistakes or learning something new that I didn't even know existed yesterday.
Honestly, I think I spend more time looking at my own website than anyone else does!
But I love it. Every little bit of it.
It's My Little Shop, and I'm Proud of It
One thing I really want people to know is that Owl Cottage isn't a dropshipping business.
The products you see on my website are products I've personally chosen and purchased for my shop.
They're not just pictures of things that someone else has sitting in a warehouse somewhere, waiting for me to pass your order on.
I take my own product photos, write my descriptions, look after my website and pack your orders myself.
When you buy something from Owl Cottage, I'm the person getting it ready to send to you.
And I think that's important for people to know.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with how other businesses operate. It's just not how I run mine.
I like knowing what's going into my parcels, and I like being involved in the whole process.
Am I Still Learning? Absolutely!
When I started Owl Cottage, I had no idea how much there was to learn about running an online store.
Websites, Google, product photography, search engines, shipping, descriptions. The list goes on.
And believe me, I've made mistakes.
I've changed things, changed them back, fixed something only to discover something else needed fixing, and probably driven myself a little bit mad along the way.
But do you know what?
I've loved learning every bit of it.
There's something really satisfying about figuring something out for yourself, especially when you didn't think you'd be able to do it in the first place.
This little shop has taken a lot of my time, effort, patience and probably a few swear words.
But it's mine. My ideas, my hard work, my little business.
And I'm really proud of it.
Why I Love Owl Cottage
I never started Owl Cottage with dreams of becoming some massive online retailer.
I just wanted to create a little shop filled with things I genuinely liked.
Books, puzzles, candles, beautiful gifts, little luxuries and those random things you come across and think, "Oh, that's lovely. I need that!"
I love finding something a bit different. Something thoughtful, something useful or something that might make someone smile.
And I love that I get to choose what goes into my shop.
It's my creative outlet, my little escape from the everyday, and something I look forward to working on.
Even after a long day at work.
